How notes in the margins of books “preserve the voices of the dead—the mighty and the forgotten alike” http://t.co/QtpC5kdbni

I'd never heard of the New York Society Library until I read this Twitter message. At first glance it sounds like quite an interesting place. Here's where more can be found about Readers Make Their Mark, and here's a page for the exhibit at Cambridge University. I haven't been able to track down the Oxford University Marginalia Group, but here's what The New Yorker and The Paris Review had to say.
I've always enjoyed returning to the books I've read long ago and reviewing my jottings, even the jottings of other owners. It might be fun to scan and collect them someday.
