Phase III

I surprised myself yesterday when I went to outpatient rehab to start the third stage of my recovery. In OT I learned some new conditioning exercises for my arm, changed my splinting schedule (more pronation; less wrist extension), and learned I'll be getting a new splint fabricated for my hand and wrist. I felt really inactive in the hospital as my general exercise routine was abandoned for rehab. I thought I would feel the effects of this injury in a loss of strength, stamina, and ability, but in PT yesterday turned in a score on a TUG (timed up and go) test nearly identical to my time when I last left rehab. I did almost as well on a Berg Balance test. So I'll work on other skills instead—a six-minute walk test and another walking test are promised.
