On Therapists

Among the many people who have taken part in my recovery, I have a really special regard for therapists. I’ve worked with physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, a neuropsychologist, and a vocational counselor. I don’t know how these people do it. First off, they have incredible skills in their chosen fields. Then, in my experience, they seem to have a real gift for encouraging their patients to success. I don’t know what their success rate is, but I suspect it’s high. And they do this against the odds—their patients come to them sick, injured, maybe even unwilling to work to get better. These guys just keep working no matter what their patients throw up against them. They’re special people.
