Another kind of slow

Friday. Woke up Tuesday with a high fever, went to the doctor, from there to the emergency room, and I've been a hospital patient ever since. First time in about four years.

It's strange how the circumstances of my life have changed in those few days. No doubt the obligations I expect have continued to accumulate in those few days, but the decision to seek care was also a decision to step outside the normal flow of life. All the things I could have done, all the things I needed to do are still there. They'll wait. The antibiotics have done their work, the fever has finally broken, and I should be home in a day or two.
